“Model Confidential” is a series where we meet the people who make the clothes come alive.
Name: Valentina Ramirez
Age: 18
Home state: Cheshire, Conn.
Why do you like modeling?
Modeling has certainly helped me opened myself up to new experiences. One of my favorite parts about having this job is that it’s not your typical 9-5 sitting behind a desk job. I get to experience new places and meet new people with every phone call, casting and booking that I get. Modeling has really become a part of who I am and it has helped my self esteem and overall persona. It has also impacted my life, starting out as a 16-year-old model, at the time I was in high school figuring out what I wanted to do with my life and with the responsibilities and options modeling has given me I have been able to figure out what my career path is.
Your fashion icons and why?
I personally don’t idolize a specific person. I strongly believe that everyone is different and by idolizing someone it almost feels as if I am tempted to copy them. That is not what I want, I want to do my own thing and be my own person. Even though I do respect and admire many people’s work ethic because that’s something I strongly believe in. Such as, Anna Wintour’s work ethic is certainly admirable but not one I’d copy.
Your favorite designer and why?
My favorite designers are Valentino because of the history and passion behind the brand, Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford because of the chic modern young vibe they have behind them and Jeremy Scott because of the amount of creativity behind each one of his pieces.
Describe your wardrobe choices when you’re not modeling?
From my friends and family I always have been told I have the “model of duty” look. I stick to comfy pieces that accentuate my figure properly. I’d say that my closet is a mix of bohemian and edgy chic. Overall, my personal style has definitely evolved over the years with all the trends that continue to appear.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
This is certainly a funny question to answer and I’ll be completely honest, my guilty pleasure is to pig out and eat burgers.
The one thing you can never leave home without?
I have always been the simplistic one, therefore most of the time I barely even carry around a purse. However, I think i’d definitely freak out if I didn’t have my wallet or my phone.
Favorite music?
You can always find me listening to alternative like Milky Chance, Hozier, and Chet Faker station on Pandora– as well as old goodies from Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and even Elvis. But don’t get me wrong if i’m with my friends or in the car you will find me singing along to Kanye West, Drake, and Childish Gambino.
Favorite food?
If you couldn’t tell from the guilty pleasure question, my favorite food are burgers but if we have to go the healthier alternative in this question then I’d say anything with Hummus.
