Fashion can be functional, fulfilling a need for modesty or protection from the elements.
Other times, fashion can be transformative. An evening gown evokes a personality of glamour. A biker jacket evokes a personality of cool aggressiveness. Athleisure outside of the gym evokes a fit and casual personality.
Those abilities of fashion, however, can be subtle. They work but the world may not realize they are being manipulated to consider the wearer as anything but who they really are.
Comic conventions, however, allow people to overtly present their fashion alter egos. Cosplayers roamed the recent Terrificon at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center in Uncasville dressed as all manners of alter egos. Many times, the guests at Terrificon didn’t evoke super heroes but personalities that were anything but their own.
