The finals for Miss Connecticut USA on Sunday, April 16 were not just about selecting new titleholders but saying farewell to the old ones. And in her final moments on the stage, the outgoing Miss Connecticut Teen USA Mya Xeller made a stylistic splash.
At each Miss Teen USA national contest, the participants create a fun costume that pays tribute to their home state. And Mya’s home state is also known as the Constitution State. Thus, her costume reflected that moniker.
Mya showed the audience in Windsor, Conn. her costume that was presented to the audiences at the nationals in Reno, Nev. last year. The costume silhouette reflected the styles of 18th century America, albeit with a modern twist. Additionally, Mya pointed out, “The Constitution with the preamble is written down the back of the train. This (document) represents not only our state of Connecticut but the whole USA (with) justice, liberty and peace.”
As the minutes counted down before she crowned her successor (who ultimately turned out to beJade Ferdinand), Mya said she kept telling everyone backstage that she wasn’t sad about her year ending. But her “firewalls” eventually came down, and although she’s not usually a crier, the tears began to fall.
