Candyce Scott’s fashion line Gorgy By Candy received a public showing on June 10 at a runway show. And the event allowed her to feed another passion… helping kids and their families.
Scott, who is based in New Britain, is a fashion designer. But she also is a licensed professional counselor. In her role as a counselor, she founded a nonprofit , SURE, which stands for Safety Usually Resolves Everything.
“SURE was created to mentor youth and families,” explained Scott.
And, Scott said, “Gorgy By Candy Clothing line…. was created to empower youth and also celebrate culture.”
“(My) goal is to heal and create strong unity in (the) community,” said Scott. “Fashion is important to me and I am always telling a story when I am creating a design. I have found that (fashion)… helps children improve their self-esteem, learn social skills and learn career goals.”
In addition to spotlighting her own line at the June 10 fashion event, Scott brought in LaKesha Keyz Risby, Unknown Clothing and Seti Ent to show their lines. The show also spotlighted diversity by presenting examples of clothing from Korea on the runway.
All of the models in the show were children, plus a friendly pup, said Scott.
