Donald Carter not only showcased a collection of his menswear and womenswear on the runway outside of The Lab at ConnCorp in Hamden on Aug. 20, he became a showcase himself.

Black Excellence New Haven, which held the event, presented an award to Carter to recognize him for his contributions to the fashion scene.
