A Black queer woman from the Bridgeport area and a home-schooled student from North Haven were crowned Miss Connecticut USA and Miss Connecticut Teen USA, respectively, on Sunday, April 14 in Windsor.
Shavana Clarke, who spoke about representing the LGBTQ+ community, won the Miss title and will now head to Miss USA to represent Connecticut.
Ava Celentano, a home-schooled student who is writing a book, won the teen title and will represent the Nutmeg state at Miss Teen USA.
