Nestled in the heart of the bustling, high energy Broadway at the Beach (a state-of-the-art destination for world class shopping, dining, entertainment, and more in Myrtle Beach, S.C.), Wonders Theater is the home to some of the greatest resident magic and comedy shows to grace the Grand Strand.

Relentlessly innovative, Wonders Theater now offers audiences the opportunity to enjoy a rotating line up of comics from across the United States, as well as the two landmark shows you’ve grown to know and love.

Charles Bach Wonders (Magic and Illusion Show)

The titular show at Wonders Theater stars multi-generational showman (and a descendant of world renowned German composer and musician Johann Sebastian Bach), Charles Bach, headlining a nearly two hour magic spectacular featuring everything from jaw dropping grand scale feats of illusion, mind bending mentalism, levitation, and many more non stop edge of your seat acts you truly must see in order to believe.

Tapping into his extensive, and impressive background of classical dance, Bach is joined by his high energy, lovely assistants for a variety of dance numbers in a myriad of genres, featuring hip hop, jazz, tap, and much more. Undeniably charming and brimming with charismatic energy, the leading man transitions seamlessly from set to set with distinctive style and a unique performance aesthetic you rarely see in magic shows.

Bach presents mystifying feats of mentalism that dazzles the audience as he accurately guesses the card to be drawn out of a standard deck while making the card in question magically appear and “come to life” on a standard poster board in real time.

Fans of mentalism and mind reading will also delight in a segment during which various questions are asked to random audience members, then accurately, and amazingly predicted by Bach as he draws the written prediction from a suspended box, which has been hanging high above the rafters for the entirety of the show.

Poignance and elegance are a recurring theme of the Wonders Show as a beautiful rendition of “The Sounds of Silence” is played on the harp by one of the assistants, donning an angelic white gown before being levitated high in the air, followed by a stunning act with color changing sand, set to the tune of a powerful poem about our spirituality and unending relationship to the earth.

Additional stand out segments include an infectious ’80’s themed rhythmic dance number with retro, technicolor costumes and spray paint art (featuring the entirety of the cast), psychic socks (which involves an assortment of hand selected audience volunteers and some very special socks with a “mind of their own”, as well as a few “standard” rubber bands that just may not be quite as normal as they seem.

Audience participation is an integral part of what makes the Wonders show so entertaining. There are numerous opportunities presented throughout the production to become “stars of the show.” Just a few of the many wildly original interactive portions include “time traveling” (during which a fan’s watch magically jumps from their own wrist to the magicians), a shoe deodorizer ( a brave young audience volunteer sacrifices up his shoe, which is burned to a crisp in a “high tech” deodorizing machine, and then magically pieced back together from total ruin).

Dazzling, electrifying, and action packed from start to finish, Wonders has firmly cemented its status as one of the premier magic shows on the Grand Strand!

STEVE FALCON’S COMEDY HYPNOSIS HOUR

The most outrageous and irreverent comedy show on the Grand Strand, Steve Falcon’s comedy Hypnosis Hour offers late night raunchy and laugh out loud fun unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere. Headliner Steve Falcon, a certified hypnotist, comic and serial entrepreneur, headlines this heavily improvised, iconoclastic, and always entertaining hour long show, featuring edgy comedy, mind blowing feats of hypnotism, and jaw dropping antics which crescendo with the ultimate grand finale.

Upon arrival at the theater, host and hypnotist Steve Falcon takes the stage with some stand up comedy ranging from controversial topics to day-to-day observations that lighten the mood and put the audience at ease before the official show begins.

Seasoned and knowledgable, Falcon effortlessly and comprehensively explains the ancient art of hypnosis to the audience, painting a picture of what both the audience and volunteers should expect during this unforgettable one-hour hypnosis spectacle.

The audience is assured that, while the subject matter is undeniably envelope-pushing, volunteers will not be subjected to any behaviors or actions that they do not feel comfortable and utmost precautions are taken to ensure they are not put in harm’s way. Several exercises of the mind and body are assigned before the bevy of brave volunteers are summoned to the stage.

My experience at this visit was exponentially different from a volunteer’s perspective as I was guided into an induction process, where my conscious mind seemed to become merged with a more dreamy and less aware state.

(Note: My exact memories on the experience were hazy; however, a recording of the show was provided for documentation purposes.)

Once I had depended into a state of relaxation, I was informed by the hypnotist that the stack of napkins he clutched were, indeed, not actually paper napkins but hundred dollar bills that must be collected and stored away swiftly so as not to be stolen. I maniacally proceeded to gather napkins, stuffing them wildly in my dress, in my pockets, and anywhere else I could find, fully convinced I was gathering currency. The volunteers were then informed that they had all been assigned roles as musicians in a prestigious concert hall, after which the show’s cast (the majority of them clearly not musicians) hilariously attempted to play pianos, drums, violins, clarinets as well.

A few of the many laugh out loud moments of the show include a segment during which the volunteers are tasked with milking an extremely large (and very smelly) cow, with hysterically funny antics ensuing, after which we all transformed into “goldfish” to the “Under the Sea” soundtrack from “The Little Mermaid” as the audience continued to be wowed at the onstage shenanigans.

The show (which is rated 18 and up) takes a bit of a naughty turn as the hypnotist presents a very inappropriate and obscene gift “in a box”, an unexpected appendage that scarily talks to , and winks at, the groggy and dazed “players”, an up close and personal encounter with an oversized stuffed bear, and a climactic ending you truly must see in order to believe!

Special thanks to Charles Bach, the entire Wonders Theater Team, and Steve Falcon, for facilitating our visit for this spotlight feature!
