For one night only at the beautiful, historic Griffin Auditorium in the quaint town of Griffin, Ga., the Hall Sisters performed a rousing, action-packed, nearly two hour concert featuring a wide array of musical genres and exquisitely performed instrumental numbers.
Comprised of four multi-talented sisters, Jessica (alto/piano/mandolin/guitar), Natalie (soprano/violin), Lydia (alto/viola/guitar), and Valerie (soprano/cello), The Hall Sisters’ resume includes a plethora of impressive credits including appearances at the world renowned and prestigious Carnegie Hall, Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Many of the group’s base of ardent and dedicated fans have grown to know and love this charming sibling band from their guest performances and residency at Dollywood, the massive and wildly popular theme park figure-headed by none other than superstar Dolly Parton herself.
Although fans of the band for several years, the Backstage Pass Crew (including myself photographer Lynn and our long standing travel companion “Mimi” was elated to finally spotlight the group officially.
Produced and sponsored by the Griffin Area Concert Association, the evening began with a podcast interview with The Hall Sisters, who provided engaging insights into the origins of their group, the curation process of their show, and all the elements that comprise the overall Hall Sisters experience, right down to wardrobe and accessory styling, which is a responsibility largely assumed by the groups’ resident fashion guru, Valerie.
Also joining this interview was Angela Schneckloth, owner and designer of Warrior Gurl Designs (@warriorgurlbeads), and self-proclaimed Hall Sisters’ mega fan, who spoke about her loyal patronage to the Hall Sisters’ shows and the personal friendships she has forged with the sisters.
The show kicked off with one of the groups’ personal favorite songs, “Hey Brother” by Swedish DJ Avicii, a chart-topping hit-laden country segment featuring a melodious rendition of Dolly Parton’s mega hit, “Jolene,” Little Big Town’s “Boondocks”, and Loretta Lynn’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough.”
The sisters’ instrumental prowess shines throughout the duration of the concert and particularly on numbers including the “Play That Fiddle Hot” segment, which features rousing multi-instrumental renditions of classics such as “The Orange Blossom Special” and “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”.
Additional standout numbers include the soulful “Blue Bayou,” numerous songs by the beloved group Chicago, a series of songs from film classics (including “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from “Toy Story” and a toe-tapping “Mary Poppins” segment), and an unexpected-yet beautifully blended- medley that combined songs “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Saturday in the Park.”
Before singing “Smile” (from the group’s well-received album of the same name, Natalie bravely shared her longtime struggle with anorexia, which ultimately inspired her to write a book “Nothing to Lose: Everything to Gain” to help inspire others whom are struggling with body dysmorphia.
Special thanks to the incredible Hall Sisters and the visionary Lewis Brewer Jr. from the Griffin Area Concert Association.
